It is common for many people to acknowledge that their careers are not progressing, as it is common for many people not to know how to accelerate your career. There is no better time to evaluate your current role and where it is taking you, like the start of a new year. So if you have been in the same position for the last 2 years or more, the following questions may be worth asking yourself……. If you find that after answering these questions that you are not ready for the next step, then at least you can set some goals and work towards achieving the results required before moving on.
Questions to help you determine if it is time to move forward in your career:
How long have I been in my current position?
Is there anything I have no achieved in my current position? Or have I achieved the best possible results?
Have I received outsanding feedback from my manager regarding my performance in this position?
Am I performing better than most people within my team / department?
Is there any aspect of my job I have not perfected?
If from the above questions you are able to confirm that you are ready to take the next step, then consider the next questions:
What is the next position up from my current position?
From job advertisements and job descriptions available on the internet in relation to the next step up, do I possess the skills and experience required?
Does my resume reflect my skills, experience and achievements to date?
Am I emotionally ready to take the next step?
How can I add value to the positions a step higher than my current?
Essentially, if you are able to confidently answer the last 5 questions, and you are certain that the next step is a position that you will be able to transition into at ease, then go for it!
